I recently tried to instal this update WindowsXP-KB922120-v5-x86-ENU.exe from on an XP Home + SP3 system in order that my Win 7 PC could properly recognise the XP PC on the network map. I saved the package to the XP HD and then ran it but it advised that my XP system was a newer version and so the update was not required and not installed. The network is hardwired and both systems can see each other although there are some permissions which I need to sort out so that the XP PC can access Win 7 files. I have tried to resolve the KB922120 issue by reading the online forum and have read most of the issues but none address this problem.
